It’s a game… sorta
Well I figure I should explain myself to people that don’t exactly understand what foursquare is. I’ve just started using it recently and I like it. I think it has potential, and if not it then something like it will be the next big thing. It’s something that people are coining as location based social networking or I’ve heard a score of other names for GPS based social networks. It is similar to Loopt, Gowalla and few other platforms, but I think foursquare has the most potential.
I think location based social networks are the next thing that people will be doing if they aren’t already thinking about doing. I’m a bit bias due to thinking it was going to be the next big thing about two years ago. If you don’t believe me talk to the other people in my advertising class that felt the same way. We came up with a plan that almost completely resembles what location based networks are today. Remember, 2 years ago Twitter wasn’t even big yet.
I don’t have some fancy video like when I talked about Twitter all that time ago, but I have a website and someone elses screen shots.
As you can tell by the pictures foursquare is another way for you to “check in” to somewhere, and it’s like Twitter, but it’s not. The way that it differs from Twitter is that it meets people in a place where they actually do business. Many businesses are starting to make agreements with foursquare and have specials and other arrangements for those who frequent their business.
I’ve used it for a little while, and plan to use it a little more on a trip to a conference this upcoming weekend in Austin. I have it linked to my Twitter account so you’ll be able to follow my actions @nwlynch. I’m excited to see the real possibilities in a larger city.
Foursquare currently has an iPhone, Android, and Palm webOS application and is working on applications for BlackBerry and the Windows Mobile. Both the Blackberry and webOS clients are currently in beta testing.
I feel so wrong for actually putting the picture of these up, but they had to be shown. You don’t get the entire idea unless you really see what a pair of fundies looks like, and how much fun it would not be. You can pair this with your t-shirt from earlier. I first imagine trying to put them on. I should stop myself there, but I continue on. I mean once you got ‘em on your not thinking about what a great idea this was. You’re thinking that’s the worst gift ever and I’m wondering how and why we ever got into these in the first place, and I am awkwardly close to my partner. I don’t see the necessity for 
Branding can send a very powerful message. When a company rebrands or changes it’s packaging, it can often make a consumer get confused and not want to buy it because they don’t like the way it looks. Design is very important as well. Good design cuts down on fluff and streamlines the message for better clarity.
